So yeah, this has to be about something, doesn't it? Let's talk about the elections! By now you hopefully know what a linkage institution is, so here's a quiz: How is voting a linkage institution?
A. Because voting is an institution that links things.
B. Why are you asking me, I'm not going to write your friggen blog for you.
C. I'd like to phone a friend.
D. Voting is a linkage institution because it gives the general public direct involvement in our current governmental system. People are given the power to vote on future candidates or policies. Instead of consuming media to see what's going on, forming interest groups, or joining political parties, people are given the power to make a decision.
Pretty sure the answer is A by the way.
Elections make an individual choose a side and cast their votes. For today, I've decided to research the presidential election of 2016. If you don't remember, it was between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton.

Spoiler alert! Trump won.
If you didn't know that, like oh my god how do you not know that. Like, how do you go about your life? Have you been cast out from society, steering away from all news and politics except for this one blog post which is just a school project? Why do you choose to read this of all things to stay informed? Geez, re evaluate your life. Unless you don't live in the US, which in that case, still why are you reading my blog for politics, but also hey nice international viewers! Radical! sorry for spoiling it I guess? Anyway, each candidate ran for president, and trump won. That's it, thanks for reading my final blog post I guess.
Dagnabbit, you've seen through my cunning attempts to deceive you. Now I gotta talk about politics. So when one is running for grand poobah of the entire country, you may want to create some advertisements telling the world that they should vote for you instead of others. Thus, both candidates created videos supporting themselves and belittling their opponents. Let's go look at some, shall we?
First things first, we'll go over the winner of the election, Donald Trump. I went over who he is in a previous post, but oh well. He entered as a republican, and ended up winning. The video below is an artifact made by Trump, attacking Hillary Clinton. The video argues several points, saying that she's unfit for president because she's not physically fit, and has consistently failed as secretary of state. By showing Clinton coughing and needing to be supported up, Trump is saying that he is more able-bodied than his competitor. The second point the ad brings up the the accountability of each candidate. By implying that she has failed on several occasions as a secretary of state, Trump builds his own credibility, indicating that he is responsible, and will not fail the country.
Now we move on to our next candidate, Hillary Clinton. She ran as a democratic, and advocated for women's rights, as well as several other issues. In her ad titled "What he believes", Clinton used several quotes taken from her opponent to convey the idea that Trump did not have the best interests of women's rights. By showing Trump saying misogynistic things, Clinton inadvertently states that she supports women's rights, unlike her opponent.
Yeah, that's about it for me. If you enjoyed this, well that's great, I'm glad my life wasn't wasted making this.
